NFL Challenge 2006

Congratulations to Big Dogg Copson, our 2006 NFL Challenge Champion!  BD finished the regular season in 2nd place and got hot in the playoffs, going 6-2 in the first 2 weekends.  That gave him a 2 game lead over the other playoff contenders which proved to be more than enough to cruise on to his first NFL Challenge Title.

It was the first time in 3 years that the title was wrapped up going into the Super Bowl.  BZ needed to pick a different team than BD and make up a monster differential in PVS of 29 pionts.  BZ was able to pick opposite of BD in the Super Bowl but even though he went high in the total points with 80, it wasn't enough as the BD went with 55 and his smart play locked in the Title.

Few glitches this week in the web so let me know if there are any issues
with my final stats for Week 1. Looks like BD came through with a 2-0
showing on Monday night to take down the first week of the Challenge as the
only competitor to break 50% winning percentage. BD takes home $35 for his
effort. Get those dues in as soon as possible!

The five 1 Different Reversal plays this weekend went 3-2

Winners on NY JETS, DETROIT and BUFFALO
Losers on HOUSTON and OAKLAND (esta had both of these - pop-pop)

Two Time NFL Challenge Champion Constantino Rocca is back to his winning
ways, starting the week off with an unprecedented 12-0 run only to faulter
the last 4 games to finish the week at 12-4. That was plenty good enough
to take the cash and move into a tie for 2nd place. BZ, BD, LL and Bubba
all finished the week a solid 10-6. BD maintained a 1 game lead over the
pack for first place. Zippy and Esta improved on their Week 1 showing and
finished with 8 wins. Finally, Montross was only able to hit for 5 wins, a
devastating tally which dropped him into the cellar for the season
standings.

ReversalPlays

1 Different plays went 2-2 bringing the season record to 5-3.... winners on

BD walked away with the week, hitting at 11-3 and taking home the cash.
1 Different ReversalPlays went 2-0 with winners on Tampa Bay and Cleveland
All The Same ReversalPlays went 1-0 with a winner on St. Louis

Week 4
Esta, LL and Bubba all hit for a solid 10-4 and Bubz eeked out the

end pott grows by $25.
1 Different ReversalPlays went 0-3 with losers on Indy, San Diego and
Detroit

BD continues to lead the overall standings with a 37-23 record, hitting at
>61% for the year. The pack has separated into the losers and winners...
BD, Bubz, LL and BZer are close to the top, while Roxie, Zip, Monty and
Esta are chasing!!!

There is a new sherriff in town as Bubba took down the cash this week and
continues his hot stretch, hitting for 10 last week and 9 this week. The
result of his picking pushes him into first place as the BD got complacent
partying up on the west coast and came in at 4-10.

Reversal plays went 1-0 with a win on SAN FRAN. 1D reversals at 8-6 on
the year

Tough week all around for the group as only 3 competitors were better than
50%. BD takes $5 from Esta and Rock on the Monday night tie-breaker and
the year end pott grows by $25 to $210. Bubba, BD and LL have separated
themselves from the rest of the pack while only 4 games separate the bottom
five competitors in the fight for the last playoff spot. Bubba continues
to be the overall leader but with the BD back from a west coast
tank-session, he is ready to get back in the mix, picking up 1 game on
Bubba this week and sitting just 1 back.

1 Different ReversalPlays go 2-0 with winners on Tampa Bay and St. Louis to

Roxie took the cash this week with a solid 8-5 record but more importantly
recovered from a couple of rough weeks early in the season to get himself
back into playoff contention, taking over the 4th and final playoff spot
from BZ. Bubba maintains the overall lead as he tied BD with a 7 win week.
Interesting stat on the week --- of the 9 doggs that covered, 8 won on the
field... maybe we should start taking some money lines on those puppies!!

1 Different ReversalPlays went O fer 3 with losers on BUFFALO, DETROIT and
CINCINNATI ---- 1D reversals are now just 9-9 on the season

"All The Same" ReversalPlays were 1-0 with a winner on ATLANTA, taking the

Not much movement in the standings except on top of the leaderboard. BD
was the only competitor to put up a winning percentage > 50% which helped
him regain the top spot from Bubz, picking up 2 games. This was the BD's
3rd outright win in the first 8 weeks and 4th cash on the season. With
LL's 4-10 week, BD and Bubz have now opened up some breathing room on the
top of the leaderboard. Rock holds on to the 4th and final playoff spot,
but just 6 games separate the last 5 competitors.
1D ReversalPlays were 2-2, Losers on Arizona and Seattle, winners on
Cleveland and Oakland. 1D plays are 11-11 on the season.
Favorites went 8-6 on the week.... all six puppies won on the field... take

Talk about an ugly week for the TF Group! 6 out of 8 competitors hit at
less than a 40% clip. Definitely a shake up in the standings -- Bubba "2
Team" pulled away from the pack, with an 8-6 record to collect the cash and
jump ahead of the BD with a 5 game lead. With a 2-12 record (O fer at the
1's), the BD may hold the record for the low score for a week in the 2006
season. BD claimed that same honor last year when he went 1-13 in Week 3
of the 2005 season. Fortunately for BD, he has been rock solid for most of
the season and still sits comfortably in playoff position.

Welcome back to the playoff race Mr. Larry Legends! With LL's 3-11
showing, we now have a 6 way race for the last 2 spots. LL and Rock are
holding on to the final 2 spots but BZer, Zippy and a rejuvenated Montross
are close behind with plenty of time left in the season.

ReversalPlays: 1 Different Reversals were smoking this weekend, going 5-0
on Sunday and taking the season record to a respectable 16-11. Congrats
to LL for hitting a nice 5 Team parlor on the ReversalPlays! Winners were
on JACKSONVILLE, WASHINGTON, DETROIT, MIAMI and INDIANAPOLIS.

I will update the web tonight for those of you traveling to Vegas this
weekend.

Time to start thinking about the Poker Playoff IV..... any ideas for a
time?

Welcome back to the Playoff Picture Mr. Montessi!!!!!!!! After 5
consecutive weeks below 8 wins, Montross blew away the competition this
week with his 12-4 showing (nearest competitor just 8-8) capturing the cash
and jumping into the 4th and final playoff spot after flirting with the
cellar for much of the season. LL's 7-9 showing put him right on the edge
of the playoff picture in the 3rd spot, just ahead of MM on PVS. Rock, Zip
and BZer all sit just 2-3 games back of MM/LL which should make for an
exciting end to the season. Bubba and BD maintained their cushion atop the
leader board and need only to avoid a major melt down to get back to the
playoffs.
No ReversalPlays this weekend.

We've got an OLD-FASHIONED BLOOOOOWWWWW-OOOOOUTTTT going! Bubba continues
to just walk away with the regular season title, posting an 11-5 record and
grabbing the cash for the week. His closest competitor is 11 games back
and with 5 weeks to go it is safe to say Bubz will be in the post-season.
BD and Monty maintain some cushion over the 4th and final playoff spot --
realistically only needing to go 50% for the rest of the season to get into
the playoffs. Zip Zalapski went 9-7 to inch 1 game closer to LL, who was
8-8. LL, Zip, Rock and BZer all sit just 2 games apart in the fight for
the final playoff spot. BZ went back to the HOME-Team Offense this week
and hit at 10-6 bringing him right back into the playoff chase -- will he
continue to ride that wave for the rest of the season?
Not many carry overs this year... year end pott at $210
ReversalPlays: 1 Different plays were 1-0 with a winner on OAKLAND --
season record stands at 17-14
Our 3rd All The Same Reversal play this season lost on Philly as Manning
was too much for a McNabb-less Eagles -- season record is 2-1
Do we push the 2006 Poker Playoff IV into January?????

BZer's HOMETeam Offense continues to perform well, hitting at 9-7 and
taking the cash this week. BZer's performance put him back in the playoff
picture as a struggling Larry Legends went 4-12 and dropped from 4th to 6th
place. Montross and BD remain in 2nd and 3rd, both hitting at 8-8, trying
to play 50% ball the rest of the way out and get into the playoffs.
Montross pulled the old ReversalPlay, reversing all his Sunday plays only
to end up 8-8 on the week -- his strategy looked solid after the 1's but
fell apart from that point on. Bubba finally fell off the horse a little,
hitting at 5-11, breaking his streak of 4 weeks at 8 wins or better. Bubz
still has a comfortable lead and looks to claim the regular season title.
Roxie and Zip hit at 6-10 to remain in striking distance of the BZer...
Esta has put up 3 decent weeks in a row but with 4 weeks to go, we just
don't think there is enough time in the season for him to make a run.
That time of the year again, where PVS (Points Variance Statistic) could
definitely play a role in finalizing the playoff spots, lower is better!!

Congrats to Esta Carrier for a 10-6 record and grabbing the cash this week.
Esta continues to make a late season charge, moving out of the cellar and
sitting 6 games back of the final playoff spot. It was the first cash win
for Esta since the 2004 season when he took home the Championship. Zip
now holds the longest record for most weeks without a cash. Zip went the
entire 2005 season without a cash and is looking to do it again 14 weeks
into 2006. BZer jumped off the HOMETeam offense at the right time, going
9-7 on the week with his picks (HOME teams would have went 6-10), BZ
opened a 4 game cushion for the #4 playoff spot. BD maintained his hold on
2nd place with a solid 9-7 record, losing out on the Monday night game
against Esta (but thats what usually happens when North of the Equator
clashes with South of the Equator!). Bubz rebounded from a 5 win week
last week to go 8-8 as he looks to coast on in to the regular season title
and gear up for the playoffs. MM also hit at 8-8 this week and maintained
3rd place. Zip and LL both hit for 7 wins, which just isn't going to get
the job done when you are fighting for a playoff berth -- their work is cut
out for them with 3 weeks to go. Poor Roxie, 6 wins last week and 5 this
week, has dropped him all the way to the cellar... looks like we have a
case of the "first to worst" going on... the 2005 Champ will need a miracle
to get to the playoffs and defend his crown!

Will 2006 be a repeat of 2005? We are in the midst of yet another unheard
of late season run... last year Roxie hit for 9 wins or more the last 5
weeks of the season, taking that momentum into the playoffs and just
dominating for the Title. This year, Esta Carrier, who was all but left
for dead just 3 weeks ago, sitting in the cellar, the season but a waste...
however look at the standings now, ESTA IS BACK, and that is what North of
the Equator TF members do.... COME BACK!! Esta put up the best number of
any TF member this season, with 13 wins, propelling him into a tie with
BZer for the final playoff spot, and by virtue of the PVS, Esta would be in
the playoffs if the season were to end today. BZer may have gone back to
the HOMETeam offense one too many times, hitting the Sunday and Monday
night games to salvage a 7-9 week.
Bubz has locked up the regular season title with his 12-4 week and can go
on cruise control for Weeks 16 and 17 -- LCSN analysts are nervous that
Bubba may have other things on his mind when we get into the playoffs!!!
BD maintained his 2nd place spot with a solid 10-4 showing -- We also
question whether the BD will be focused on the playoffs with all of the
change going on in his life. MM has said he is shooting to play 50% ball
the rest of the season, and he is doing just that, hitting at 8-8 the last
three weeks. After a 4 win week 2 weeks ago, LL seems to have righted the
ship with a 9-7 showing, however, time is running out! Zip continues to
play 500 ball and just can't seem to make up any ground, dropping to the
7th spot with LL and Esta's solid week. Looks like Roxie has gone golfing
for the season, with a 6-10 showing he sits 8 back of a playoff spot with 2
weeks to go... then again, you never know what those North of the Equator
boyz are capable of.
PVS could definitely be a factor this year with 4 competitors within 3
games of the final playoff spot.

Wow... doggs went 14-2 this week... crazy stuff, many winning on the field once again!

Roxie's controversial All-Away team strategy tied LL for first with a 12-4 showing.  LL took $5 from roxie on the points.  LL picked up one spot on both Esta and BZ and needs to pick up 2 games in Week 17 to have a playoff shot (LL has a solid PVS).   What a dog fight between BZ and Esta... matching jab for jab this week... both at 11 wins this week and Esta maintains the playoff spot with a 10 point lead in PVS over BZer.  Bubz needs only to not put up a major stinker in Week 17 to take the regular season title but clinched a playoff spot.  BD solidified a playoff spot with his 11 win week this week.  We project Monty needs a 7 win week to get into the playoffs.  Zip and Roxie are battling it out for the cellar!

Good luck to all... I will update the web tonight... DON'T FORGET  THE SATURDAY NIGHT GAME!!!  Every game counts this week!!

BZ opened up a can of whoop-ass on Esta this week to solidify his playoff
spot.... BZ "reversed" Esta going 12-4 (Esta was 4-12) and took home the
cash. Bubba's 10-6 showing matched the BD, clinching the Regular Season
Title and $60 in cash for his effort. Rounding out the playoff picture is
Montross Montessi... pretty much playing 50% ball the last 5 weeks of the
season to earn 4th place and the final playoff spot. Those moving on to
the playoffs all hit for 50% or better for the entire season and those
going golfing were all below 50%.
Congratulations to Bubba, BD, BZer and Montross for a fine season of
handicapping. LL, Esta, Zip and Roxie will be on the sidelines for the
post season this year.
I will update the playoff web Thursday night.

With his 10 week win in Week 17, BD Copson quietly set a new record for
consecutive weeks with 8 or more wins vs the spread... hitting 6 weeks in a
row.
BZ hit for 9 wins or better vs the spread 5 out of the last 6 weeks,
clinching the #3 playoff spot.
BD takes home the lowest week total, hitting for only 2 wins in week 9 (BD
took home the same honor in 2005, having a 1 win week that year)
Zip Zalapski completed his second consecutive season without collecting any
cabbage (this hasn't been done since the days Ms. Woods was firing)
ReversalPlays ended the season on a tough note.
All The Same Reversals went 2-3 on the season
1 Different went 20-18 on the season

BD came out of the gates HOT, hitting at a 3-1 clip to take the early lead
in the fight for the Championship. MM sits 1 back after a 2-2 weekend and
has a 15 point lead in the PVS on the BD. Bubz and BZer stumbled this
weekend, with 1-3 showings -- this after Bubz ran away with the regular
season title and BZer came in screaming hot with a 12-4 showing in week 17
to snatch a playoff spot away from Esta. Both Bubz and BZer have their
work cut out for them, down 2 early, but still 7 games to go and anything
can happen.
I'll post lines on Wednesday/Thursday night -- good luck!
Poker Playoff IV??? What is the plan??? Are we looking at Thursday
night, Jan 18th, 8:30-9pm?? MM leaves on the 21st so we're running out of
time!!!!

The NFL Championship is BD's to win after another 3-1 showing in which all
doggs covered. With 3 games to play, BD's magic number is 2 wins -- 1 win
guarantees BD to at least have a chance on PVS. We can't count out the
challengers though, as players have come back to win the Championship in
the past, sitting in this very spot -- they need to have a little luck on
their side though, with time running out, every match of the BD's picks
hurts their chances to catch him.
BZ and Bubz also hit for 3-1 this weekend to maintain BD's pace while MM
went 2-2 to drop -2 back of the BD.
With the Thursday night festivities, I will update the web on Friday night,
picks will need to be in before the first game on Sunday @ 3:00
Another 2006 Major will be determined tomorrow night as we kickoff the 2006
Poker Playoff @ 8:30-8:45!! Good Luck to everyone! Graaaaas @ 6pm??
Should we grab a pie on the way to Roxie's?

BD did what he needed to do this weekend... hitting one game with Chicago
and forcing at PVS showdown at a minimum. BZer reversed the Pats for a
winner to bring him within one of BD but will need a miracle to take down
the championship... but when "North of the Equator" faces off against
"South of the Equator", anything can happen. BZ needs to pick different
than BD for the Super Bowl, win the game AND make up a 29 point PVS
differential. Sounds tough, but stranger things can happen.
MM and Bubz were eliminate with their 0-2 showings this weekend -- they now
play only to help their career statistics.
Congratulations to MM Montessi for capturing the PPIV last Thursday night,
it was his first Major since the 2002 March Madness Tournament
