Welcome to TankFest VIII - Tournament of
Champions --- just 2 years away from our 10 year anniversary. Rather
than welcoming BD back from Abilene, Tej-as, this time we welcome
Montross back home to good ole comforts of our base golf course:
Schwagawam Country Club.
Tourney VII lacked the excitement that we’ve
seen in previous tourneys. BD Copson and LL Ligenza came out strong and
held off one charge from Zip/Bubba to claim their unprecedented 3rd
straight TankFest. It is the first time in the history of the TF Group
that any member has won a Major Championship 3 years in a row. Team
Montross/BZer struggled on the front nine and didn't have enough time to
get back into a race on the back nine. Team Zip/Bubba also fell behind
early by 3 strokes, but made a charge on holes 8-9 to cut the lead to 1.
They couldn’t drop a big putt on 11 to pull even with the champs and
that was the end of it, as the Champs remained calm and closed the door
on all the challengers. Walking off of 18 with a 3 stroke victory.
Final scores were BD/LL at Even, BZer/Montross
took 2nd at +3, Zip/Bubba at +4 and Esta/Rock rounding out the groups,
finishing up at +17. Esta captured longest drive, while LL took closest
to the pin.
The expectations are high for the defending
champs, as we see no clear challenger this year. While the champs may
have some question marks, the rest of the field have more and the odds
makers have installed the defending champs as heavy favorites. Zip
Zalapski has gone on record that he will request a vote on a 5 Year
Maximum for Champions (a topic that a 3 year maximum has been voted down
2 times already) and the banquet.
On July 6th, BZer pairs up with Esta for a
second time and will set the pace along with the Challengers with the
highest odds, Bubz and Montross. In the second pairing, first time
teammates Roxie and Zip will try to get in the heads of 3-time defending
Champs LL & BD.
The tourney format remains a 2-man scramble,
using a stroke-play format. Best team score through 18 holes will
determine the champion with all ties settled with a playoff on the
putting green. Final Draw results below. We will make every effort to
re-shuffle the teams at the turn depending on current scores at that
time and speed of course play.
