A look at the competition from
our analysts at LCSN (Losers Club Sports Network):
TEAM BD/LL
Les BD Copson: Back in 2000, BD was far and away the best golfer on
tour, yet it
took him 5 years to capture his first TF Title. BD has now fully
“arrived” with
back-to-back championships and we see no reason that he will slow down.
BD is
determined to prove his skill on the golf course and anything short of
the
unprecedented 3-peat will be considered a disappointment in his eyes.
The only
question we have on BD is his mental game; seems like the BD has had a
lot on
his mind lately and an upcoming career change may weigh heavily in
September.
Larry “the legend” Ligenza: The Legend has slimmed down and may
be in the
best shape of his TankFest career. Having said that, his game may not be
where
it needs to be with the field this team is facing. LL’s lifestyle has
slowed down a
bit from the greenery-blazin’ Legend (aka Green Phantom) we knew and
loved
from a year ago, but he still roams from Boston to Westfield to New York
to meet
with “friends” and just doesn’t commit enough time to the game. LL can
always
hit the long ball when needed but is the BD’s short game in good enough
shape to
pull out the 3-peat?
TEAM BUBBA/ZIP
Bubba Barbarini: The injury wire hasn’t reported any major
concerns with
Bubba’s back which is always a positive. Bubz has another year of
parenthood
under his belt and sleep deprivation in no way should affect his game
come
Championship day. After the draw, Bubba was quoted as saying, “this is
what the
fans wanted to see; the 2 two-time consecutive TF Champs going
head-to-head in
the final pairing. The galleries are going to be 5-10 deep for this
tourney! It’s the
absolute best scenario for the Tournament and the sport.”
Zip Zalapski: Another one bites the dust. How will the recent
marriage of Zip
affect his golf game? Zip has been on the links at most 4-5 times this
year and it
has been hit or miss. From a banjo round at a 9-hole course in Maine to
streaks of
solid play in a grueling outing with the Briggsie Boyz. Zip needs to
pull it together
on Sept 15th for his team to have a real shot at collecting a 3rd
Championship. Is
the honeymoon over? do thoughts of a long life together with one woman,
or little
Zippies running around in the future, crush Zip’s chances to raise the
cup again?
TEAM ESTA/ROCK
Esta Carrier: 2006 seems to be the perfect storm for Esta and
we’re nervous this
cat might not even show up to the tournament. Where do we start?
Building a
new house and starting a new job would be plenty. Add to that the
pressure of 2-
3 guys wanting to rent a room at the castle, “Casa De Carrier”, and this
guy’s
head may soon blow up. Carrier has been a no show on the course as of
late and
we question how far his team can go in his current state of mind.
Roxie Rocca: This might be the year that Roxie has the most
pressure on him. In
prior years, Roxie’s pre-tournament routine was to get his short game
going
strong, focusing primarily on chipping and putting. However, this year,
for
reasons discussed above under Esta, Roxie will need to contribute
heavily from tee
to green. We’ll have to wait and see whether or not Roxie can carry the
load, but
we know at a minimum, he’ll be out there with his boyz, cracking some
brews and
giving it his all!
TEAM MONTROSS/BZER
BZer Zielinski: This is easily the hungriest team on Tour.
Neither player has
raised a TF Group Major Championship since 2002. Disappointing to say
the least,
but I think the BZer will come into this tourney as focused as he has
ever been.
The confidence he has lacked at previous tourneys will be present
knowing that
Monty is hitting behind him. Couple that with the fact that BZ is now in
his 2nd
year of semi-retirement, is fully relaxed, and has a hefty dose of time
on the
course this season… and we think they have a real shot at winning. At a
minimum, this team is by far and away the fan favorite!
Montross Montessi: When is Monty going to break out of his shell
and post one
of those 37 or 38’s when it REALLY matters? This event is providing the
perfect
stage to put all the rumors about his game to bed. With the strongest
field in
history, it is time for MM to “put up or shut up.” It is going to take a
full 18 holes
of golf (and a full 8 brews too) for MM to take down the Championship as
competitors will continue to jab Monty on his short putts all day long.
Hopefully,
BZer will take any controversy out of play, but if this one comes down
to a Putt-
Off, they all must go in the hole and MM is on his own under that
scenario!
