Welcome to TankFest IX - Tournament of
Champions --- it seems we have more luck coordinating a date with people
living thousands of miles of way than we do when everyone is close. This
year, we once again welcome Monty back from Cali and for the 8th time in
9 years, the venue for the tournament is Schwagawam Country Club.
After a lackluster tournament in TFVII, Tourney
VIII brought back the excitement with a finish for the ages! In their
chase for a fourth consecutive title, BD Copson and LL Ligenza failed to
make the final grouping after nine holes, finishing hole #9 with a
triple bogey 6. However, it wouldn’t be the last time we heard from
them. Down a stroke and standing on the 16th hole, the defending champs
dug down deep and put together the strongest finish in the history of
the TF Tournaments. With a birdie on 16 and an eagle on 17, the champs
turned the tides and put all the pressure on Bubba and Montross.
Unfortunately, Team Bubz/MM couldn’t hit the birdie putt on 17 to pull
even and finished with a bogey on 18 to finish 2 back. It wasn’t the
Champs best day, but that is what champions do, they know how to dig
down deep and pull through when they have to.
Final scores were BD/LL at +2, Bubz/Montross
took 2nd at +4, Zip/Roxie made the final grouping but faded fast on the
last 3 holes to finish in 3rd at +8. Esta/BZer rounded out the groups,
finishing up at +10. BD captured longest drive, while Esta took closest
to the pin.
After voting for the 5 year PnP Rule at the
closing ceremonies at TFVIII, the tone of the TF Group on this issue has
changed significantly over the past year. After heavy lobbying by the
BD, it looks like the PnP rule could be abolished at the next vote. All
the TF-ers seem to have a renewed interest in taking down the Champs on
the course and not by the ink, and the result has been some heavy
chatter on the cyberwaves leading up to the Tourney.
On June 6th, the Z Boyz (Zipper and BZer) pair
up together for the first time since 2001 in the first grouping, while
Bubz and Monty join them and will play together for the 2nd time in a
row and third time in their careers. In the second pairing, Roxie and
Esta team up for the 2nd time and will face off against the 4-time
defending Champs LL & BD.
The tourney format remains a 2-man scramble,
using a stroke-play format. Best team score through 18 holes will
determine the champion with all ties settled with a playoff on the
putting green. Final Draw results below. We will make every effort to
re-shuffle the teams at the turn depending on current scores at that
time and speed of course play.

had to say about you!
See you at the tourney
