Top Ten Worst BlackJack Plays

I've been hitting the BlackJack tables for about 10 years now and with each new trip down to the c-no I always seem to come home amazed at some of the plays people make.  With so many bad players on the floors, its no wonder why the casinos continue to prosper.  As a good friend of mine likes to say, "if you're planning on playing that way all night, let's head out to the parking lot and I'll deal the cards to you because there is absolutely no way you're going to win."

The list continues to grow, but any reasonable blackjack player has to get a kick out of these:

10.  We'll start with a few basics.  Who has played with this player?  "Can I split 10's here?"  C'mon, why are you breaking up a winner.  Take a winning hand and savor it!

9.  For all the players that won't hit a 12-16 vs a dealer's ten and the hundreds of times I've seen it, this spot is for you.  Its especially painful when I get your 5 on my double down.

8.  The eight spot obviously has to go to the people with the itchy trigger finger ready to hit the 14-15-16 against the dealer's 4-5-6 card.

7.  One dealer story had to make the list.  I once had a dealer push the shoe of cards off the blackjack table, spraying cards all over the place and stopping play for a good 25 minutes.  I was playing 2 spots, the dealer had a 6 showing, I had an eleven and a 20.  It was another battle with the pit boss but eventually he paid the whole table.

6.  I just have to laugh at any player that pulls out the card that tells them what to do in each situation.  What do they do when its a 2 vs a 3 and the card doesn't tell you what to do?

5.  This doesn't even relate to a bad play, just figured it had to make the list.  I once had a pit boss come over while I was winning BIG and told me to "quiet down".  What, are you kidding?  I can't be happy when I'm winning?  Why don't you just take my money and kick me in the ass on the way out.

4.  The Skeeters.  This is what my friends and I call the people who gather when they hear a table starting to get hot.  You can almost feel them breathing down your back.  They feel no remorse trying to buy in when the dealer has just broke 6 times in a row.  The problem skeeters are the ones who give YOU attitude when you ask them to wait until the end of the shoe.

3.  Now if it was just a person hitting 17 it wouldn't come in at #3, but this is a good one.  Two guys sit down at my table, one on each side of me.  The very first hand the guy in front of me has a hard 17 vs. the dealer's 10.  He's sitting there thinking about the play and then takes a hit (wouldn't you know it a 3 falls for 20).  I'm sitting on 18 the deal comes around and the dealer pulls 19.  Of course had Mr. 17 not taken a hit the dealer would of busted and the whole table would have won.  THE KICKER:  I turn to the guy and say, "why the hell are you hitting 17?"  His other buddy sitting on my left yells, "YOU GOTTA HIT 17 EVERY TIME".............  C'mon!!!!

2.  It must have been about 4am in the morning, looking for one run to bail me out, it was just myself in seat#2 and another player in seat#3. I had just started to break out, winning 5 hands in a row, however the player to my left had lost 5 in a row.  At this point he starts to get up, I say "good luck" as I think he's leaving.  No!  He sits down in seat #1.  This guy has no shame and thinks he's going to take my cards.  WOW!  I quickly stopped the dealer and had 2 pit bosses on the scene to correct the situation.  It might have gotten ugly had the pit bosses not told him he couldn't play there.

and the worst play I've ever seen......

1.  I actually had the privilege of seeing a person stay on 6 because the dealer had a 6 showing and he didn't want to take the dealer's break card.  He lost.
